Arezzo

If we had to make a choice for Italian cities to visit, we would have to emphasise the name ‘Arezzo’. Located in Tuscany, it is a place that is timeless. As soon as you enter one of the narrow streets, which invariably lead you to the central square, you no longer remember what era we are in. Just think that the University was born here and in fact the oldest university in Europe still stands.

The historical centre is characterised by the presence of Piazza Grande, an enormous open-air space completely built in bricks surrounded by many imposing monuments that make you feel small, small. We emphasise that it is one of the most beautiful squares in Italy and Tuscany.

The church of Santa Maria della Pieve is one of the structures in Piazza Grande. particular for its rounded shape reminiscent of a dome, but very low. This structure, reminiscent of medieval architecture, was among the first architectural ‘experiments’ in domes that later distinguished church cathedrals.

You will then be amazed by the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Donatus. A truly imposing, enormous building that stands on the ancient site of Arezzo's acropolis. In the evening, it is the most illuminated spot that is even visible from the sky.

Culture is familiar in this city; to admire it, there is the Vasari House Museum with frescoes and paintings that are Renaissance, beautiful and well maintained. You can also visit the archaeological museum where there are exhibits that even date back to the time of Etruscan rule in Tuscany.

The Roman amphitheatre is among the oldest testimonies of the first acropolis on which the city was founded. However, Arezzo is rich in other monuments such as: Palazzo dei Priori, Casa del Petrarca, Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi and Palazzo dei Priori.
