Trentino

Trentino is a charming region in northern Italy known for its breathtaking landscapes. It is part of the autonomous region of Trentino-South Tyrol and covers an area of about 6,200 km².

The region is dominated by the Dolomites, a mountain range known for its bizarre rock towers, which was added to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List in 2009. In the south, Trentino borders Lake Garda. The upper Italian lake is a natural paradise, overlooked in the north by the 2,000 m high peaks of the Garda mountains. 

Breathtaking mountain scenery in Trentino

Trentino is located in the north of Italy, bordering Austria to the north and east and the Veneto region to the south. The bright limestone cliffs of the Dolomites are a scenic highlight that exerts a great attraction in summer and winter. At an altitude of 3,769 m, Monte Cevedale is the highest mountain in Trentino. It is part of the Ortler massif and is located on the border with South Tyrol. The highest peak in the Dolomites is the 3,342 m high Marmolada. Trentino is also home to numerous other mountain massifs such as the Brenta Dolomites, the Adamello area and the Lagorai range.

Hiking in the Alpine region

Active holidaymakers get their money's worth in Trentino. Countless hiking trails criss-cross the mountain regions from the Ortles Massif to the Dolomites. The best-known hiking routes include the Dolomites High Trail No. 1 and the Sentiero delle Orobie. The towns of Rovereto and Trento welcome you with medieval flair. You have the opportunity to take part in a themed hike under the motto "Charms of the Middle Ages". 

In spring, hundreds of thousands of apple trees are in full bloom in Trentino. In the saddle of a bicycle or with laced hiking boots, you can enjoy the extraordinary flair on the apple road in Val di Non. A panoramic hike also leads from Lake Garda along the old Ponale road to Lake Ledro. 

Trento and Buonconsiglio Castle

An attractive excursion destination in Trentino is the city of Trento, which is the capital of the region. Trento is known for its Baroque buildings and its Gothic cathedral, which was the venue for the Council of Trento in the 16th century. In the city, numerous museums, including the Diocesan Museum, the Art Museum and the Science Museum, invite you to visit. 

One of the most famous sights in Trentino is Buonconsiglio Castle, which was built in the 13th century and now houses a museum. The castle consists of several buildings added over the centuries and welcomes its visitors with an impressive collection of frescoes.
